But just like any other decorations, you should be considering a couple of key rules and guidelines.

Guidelines to Outdoor Christmas Decoration Ideas:

One of the most important of my tips for outdoor Christmas decorations is size. First of all, bigger is not always better. Some lighted outdoor Christmas decorations are quite vast in scale, covering the entire ground with lots of lights. However, these are not always the best Christmas outdoor decorations. Sometimes big means obtrusive and sometimes big means obnoxious, you don’t want one object to take away from everything else. Make sure that you have the right balance for your outdoor Christmas decoration.

It is not just the overall size of your Christmas decorations that is important, but more importantly the relative size of your outdoor Christmas decorations. What does this mean? Well, it is awful to see your two foot tall Santa Claus next to a six foot tall deer across from your mammoth Frosty the Snowman. It can really throw off the feel of you theme with a bunch of miss matching decorations. All Christmas outdoor decorations aren’t necessarily the same size, but that the sizes need to match the other decorations.

For that matter, the best outdoor Christmas  decorations are created with a unified creative vision. So, don’t put a manger display next to Rudolph. That does not mean you need to limit yourself to only secular or religious Christmas outdoor decorations, but that you should separate them to create a cohesive look, just don’t have then directly next to each other.

Another thing to consider are the different types of decorations that you can buy, for example if you want to have outside Christmas lights on your house make sure that they are the same color and style throughout the entire exterior house, also you can try matching the lights on the house to your ground lighted outdoor Christmas decorations.

A newer style of outdoor decor is the inflatable Christmas decorations, these are usually lighted and come with motors to keep them inflated throughout the night.  One thing to keep in mind is to try and put the inflatable decorations on the opposite side of your lawn then your normal lighted Christmas decor so that it doesn’t look that crowded or out of place.

For daylight decorations you can put up wooden outdoor Christmas decorations such as Merry Christmas or Santa Crossing signs, there are also a variety of different outside wooden decor you can find online like Santa, Reindeer, Elves, Manger Pieces and more!

When you are putting together your outdoor Christmas decorations this year, consider these guidelines. Create a unified display that works on a thematic level, with all of the decorations to scale and not overwhelming your neighborhoods. It is better to have a classy Christmas display than trying to hard and going over the top.

That might mean not using every outdoor Christmas decoration you have every year, but that is ok. A good display should have a good vision and an overall theme that works well together. A little bit of restraint can go along way to putting up some truly classy and impressive outdoor Christmas decorations.
